Why are Hiring Managers rejecting my application?

There are several reasons why applications are rejected and some of these are easy to rectify.

  • A lot of candidates apply for jobs because they like the job title. Did you take the time to read the job advert? If you do not meet at least 80% of the minimum requirements your CV will not be considered. Only apply for jobs which are suited to your qualification and experience.
  • Repetition of information and mistakes on your CV will create a bad impression.
  • Sending your CV to a lot of recruiters or companies in the same email creates the impression that you did not take the time to research the company itself and the vacancies they have available.
  • Make sure you have the correct information regarding the company and the vacancy you are applying for. If there is a Reference number, please use this to clarify what you are applying for.
  • Generic CVs or applications rarely grab the attention of Hiring Managers. Take a few extra minutes to customize your CV or cover letter before applying. Do some research on the company and mention the skills you have that will be beneficial for them or this role you are applying for.
  • Do not put false information on your CV. It is very easy to determine if the information you provided regarding your previous work experience is correct or not.
  • Make sure you update your CV regularly, especially with regards to work experience and additional training received. Also ensure that your contact details are up to date.
